Feline cognitive dysfunction syndrome
Also known as: Cat dementia
Feline cognitive dysfunction syndrome is an age-related decline in brain function, broadly comparable to dementia in people, affecting many senior and geriatric cats. Changes in the aging brain lead to disorientation, altered interactions, disrupted sleep, house-soiling and increased vocalisation. It is a diagnosis of exclusion, as other medical problems can cause similar signs. While not curable, the condition can be managed to improve quality of life and slow apparent progression.
