Also known as: Bumblefoot
Bumblefoot is a chronic bacterial infection and inflammation of the footpad of birds, usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus entering through skin abrasions. It produces swelling, a characteristic dark scab on the sole, lameness and, if untreated, deep abscesses and bone involvement. Heavy birds on hard or dirty surfaces are most at risk.
