The chip means nothing until it's registered
United Pet Club links your pet's microchip number to your contact details at no charge, and keeps the record live for as long as the pet is yours. It's the step that turns an implant into an actual way home.
What actually happens when a chip gets scanned
A vet's scanner reads one thing: a chip number. Not your unit number, not your mobile, nothing else. Staff run that number against a database to work out who to call, and if nobody registered the chip, or it sits in a system the finder can't reach, the search stops right there.
United Pet Club keeps a free, searchable registry holding your contact details against your pet's chip number, and we take chips from any manufacturer, so the brand your vet used doesn't matter. We also take part in the American Animal Hospital Association's universal microchip lookup, one of the first databases clinics check when a stray turns up.
The whole thing takes minutes. Start with free microchip registration if your pet was just chipped, or work through the guides for registering a dog's microchip and registering a cat's microchip. A pet with no chip at all can still get a free profile via pet registration, and anyone who's found a stray can run a microchip lookup to trace the owner.

A tag and a chip cover different weak spots
A microchip is a tiny implant, about the size of a grain of rice, sitting under the skin between the shoulder blades. It carries a unique ID that a scanner reads, nothing more; there's no battery, no live tracking, and it only identifies your pet once someone scans it up close. Without a registry behind that number, it means nothing at all, which is why registering matters just as much as the implant.
A pet ID tag works the opposite way. It sits on the collar in plain sight, so whoever finds your pet reads your number directly, no scanner required. Tags do slip off sometimes, at the void deck or somewhere along a park connector, which is exactly the gap a chip fills. Run both together and your pet has the fast, visible option and the permanent one that's harder to lose.
What Singapore owners ask about the registry
Does Singapore have a free pet microchip database?
United Pet Club runs one. Any chip, from any manufacturer, registers free for life under the free lifetime plan, and that sits alongside the licensing the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) requires for dogs, not in place of it. Upgraded tiers add extras like scan location and a round-the-clock hotline, but the basic listing never expires and never costs a cent.
Is registering separate from getting the chip implanted?
It is. A vet implants the chip, but until you submit your contact details to a registry, the chip on its own can't lead anyone back to you. Two different steps, and the second one is on you.
What happens when a vet scans my pet's chip?
The reader displays an ID number and names the registry that holds it. From there, staff pull up your contact details and reach out.
Do I need to update the registry after moving flats?
Yes, update your address, phone number, and email the moment they change, including a move between flats or estates. A registry only works if the contact details behind it are current; stale information can delay a reunion even when the chip itself is properly registered.
Does United Pet Club's registry work outside Singapore?
It does. Registration through United Pet Club isn't tied to any one country, and staff can pull your record 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world. Every chip we sell meets the ISO 11784/11785 standard, so the scanners used across most countries can read it, meaning a pet registered with us stays traceable whether you're relocating, travelling, or rehoming a pet across a border.
