Permanent identification, built to last a lifetime
About the size of a grain of rice, a pet microchip is a permanent ID device that a vet or trained professional places just under your pet's skin. Our lineup covers three ISO-standard families, Standard ISO, TapSense, and ThermaSense, and free lifetime registration in the United Pet Club pet registry comes with every chip.
How a microchip keeps your pet safe
There is no battery inside a microchip, and it cannot follow your pet around town. What it holds is a unique ID code, sealed in a tiny glass capsule and placed between the shoulder blades, where it stays readable for your pet's whole life. Scan a lost pet at a vet clinic, shelter, or animal services office and that code comes up, along with your contact information from the microchip registry.
ISO 11784/11785 is the international standard for animal microchips, and every chip United Pet Club sells meets it, which means standard scanners at vet clinics and shelters can read it almost anywhere. We also register our chips with ICAR, the International Committee for Animal Recording. On top of that, each order ships with a free QR pet ID tag for your dog or cat's collar, a scanner-free shortcut to a quicker reunion.
Torn between the three? Our microchip comparison guide walks through Standard ISO, TapSense, and ThermaSense in one place.
One registry, three chip families
Standard ISO
The baseline of the lineup: ISO 11784/11785 permanent identification, readable on standard scanners anywhere in the world.
TapSense
Keeps full ISO compatibility and layers mobile tap access on top, so a smartphone can read pet information as easily as a standard scanner. Sold as TapSense or TapSense Core, each in multiple sizes.
ThermaSense
Builds temperature sensing into the chip itself, so identification and health monitoring come from one scan. Sold as ThermaSense or ThermaSense X, each in multiple sizes.
Why pet owners choose a United Pet Club microchip
ISO standard
Built to ISO 11784/11785 and FDX-B certified, every chip reads on the standard scanners that vet clinics, shelters, and animal control rely on worldwide.
ICAR registered
Every chip carries ICAR registration; the International Committee for Animal Recording is the body veterinary professionals trust for microchip standards.
Free lifetime plan
The free lifetime plan is included with every chip: registration stays free, and so does every future change to your contact details, for as long as your pet lives.
Small size
Both the chip and its injector needle are compact, keeping injection quick and low-stress for pets of every size.
Environmentally friendly
The optional injector is reusable and separate from the microchip needle itself, so less single-use plastic ends up in the bin.
Upgraded registry
Want more than the free plan? Upgraded registry features are there to add, from scan notifications to details on where your pet's tag was last searched.
A free registry built to bring pets home
Vets, shelters, and animal control can search the United Pet Club pet registry at any hour, including through the AAHA universal microchip lookup, and every microchip we ship arrives already linked to it. A free microchip lookup is open to anyone who finds a lost pet, no account required. Your registration never costs a cent, your contact details can be changed whenever your address or phone number does, and some plans will even notify you when your pet's chip or tag gets scanned and searched.
Already chipped through another provider? No problem: register the microchip number with us anyway, or have a look at what free registration includes first.
Pet microchip questions, answered
Is microchip registration actually free?
It is. The free lifetime plan comes with every chip we sell, covering registration in the United Pet Club pet registry and as many contact updates as you ever need, at no cost for your pet's lifetime. Upgraded registry features exist as an option, but the core registration never lapses and never asks for payment.
Can a microchip show me where my pet is?
No, and that is by design: there is no battery and no GPS inside. The chip simply stores an ID number for a scanner to read once your pet turns up at a vet clinic, shelter, or animal services office. Live location tracking calls for a separate GPS collar or tag instead, not a microchip.
What makes a microchip an ISO microchip?
It meets ISO 11784/11785, the international standard ensuring any compliant scanner can read the chip regardless of where or by whom it was sold. That shared standard is what lets vets and shelters around the world identify a lost pet chipped somewhere else entirely.
Which United Pet Club microchip is right for my pet?
For straightforward permanent identification, Standard ISO is the place to start. TapSense makes sense when you want pet information readable by a smartphone tap on top of a standard scanner, and ThermaSense is the pick when you want temperature sensing for health monitoring built into the same chip.
Will shelters and vets recognize a United Pet Club microchip?
They will. Our chips follow ISO 11784/11785 and carry ICAR registration, the same standards the whole industry uses, so any vet, shelter, or animal control scanner built for standard microchips reads ours too.
