United Pet Club

Registering your pet's microchip costs nothing

A microchip serves no purpose until it has been registered. United Pet Club connects your pet's chip number with your contact information at no charge, and this record remains active for your pet's entire life.

Understanding how the registry functions

Consider what happens when a vet or a shelter receives a lost pet: the scanner reveals only a chip number, nothing about the owner. Someone on staff must then search that number through a database to determine who to contact. Should the chip have never been registered, or registered somewhere the shelter is unable to access, the number leads to nothing whatsoever.

United Pet Club maintains a free, searchable registry that stores your contact information against your pet's microchip number, regardless of which manufacturer's chip your vet happened to use, whether at a neighbourhood clinic or a larger hospital. Our system also forms part of the American Animal Hospital Association's universal microchip lookup, one of the first databases a shelter or clinic consults when a stray animal is brought in.

The process itself takes only a few minutes to complete. Owners whose pet has just been chipped should begin with free microchip registration, while our step by step guides cover registering a dog's microchip and registering a cat's microchip in more detail. A pet without any chip can still receive a free profile through pet registration, and anyone who has found a stray animal can run a microchip lookup to locate the owner.

AAHA universal microchip lookup

Our registry participates in the American Animal Hospital Association's universal lookup, the database most shelters and veterinarians consult first.

Microchips and pet ID tags serve different purposes

A microchip is a small implant, roughly the size of a grain of rice, placed beneath a pet's skin between the shoulder blades, carrying a unique identification number that a scanner can read. It should not be mistaken for a GPS tracker: there is no battery involved, no capability to locate your pet in real time, and it identifies your pet only once someone scans it at close range. This number carries no meaning without a registry standing behind it, which is precisely why registration matters as much as the implant procedure itself.

A pet ID tag functions rather differently, hanging visibly on the collar so that anyone who finds your pet can read your phone number immediately, requiring no scanner or database at all. Tags do, however, come loose or fall off from time to time, on a busy street or during a walk in the park, and this is precisely where the microchip provides its backup. Between a registered microchip and a legible tag, your pet is covered by both the immediate, visible option and the permanent one that is considerably harder to lose.

Common questions about pet microchip registration

Is there a genuinely free pet microchip registry available in India?

Yes, there is. United Pet Club maintains a free registry for owners across the country: any pet's chip, regardless of manufacturer, registers free for life under our free lifetime plan. Upgraded plans introduce additional features such as scan location and round the clock live agent support, though basic registration remains free and never expires.

Must I register my pet's microchip separately from having it implanted?

Yes, these are two distinct steps. A vet performs the implant procedure, though you must still submit your contact information to a registry before that chip can lead anyone back to you.

What occurs when a shelter scans my pet's chip?

The scanner reads the chip's identification number and indicates which registry holds the record. Shelter staff then search that number to locate your contact information and reach out to you.

Should I update my details if I relocate?

You should update your address, phone number, and email as soon as any of these change, which becomes particularly important should you shift cities for employment reasons. A registry serves its purpose only when the contact information behind it remains current, so outdated details can delay a reunion even with a properly registered chip.

Does United Pet Club's registry function outside India?

Yes, it does. Pet registration and microchip registration with United Pet Club remain available worldwide, with the registry searchable around the clock from any country. Since every chip we sell meets ISO 11784/11785, standard scanners in most countries are able to read it, keeping your pet identifiable whether you are travelling, relocating abroad, or rehoming across a border.
