Permanent identification designed to last a lifetime
About the size of a grain of rice, a pet microchip is implanted just under the skin by a veterinarian, a procedure that takes only a few seconds. United Pet Club offers this identification in three families, Standard ISO, TapSense, and ThermaSense, and each chip is accompanied by a free lifetime registration plan in our pet registry.
Understanding what a microchip does for your pet
A microchip contains no battery and cannot be located through GPS. What it does contain is a small glass capsule holding a unique code, placed between the shoulder blades, and this remains readable for the animal's entire life. When a veterinarian, an animal welfare organisation, or a municipal corporation team scans a lost pet, the scanner retrieves that code and, with it, the owner's contact details from the registry linked to the chip.
Every United Pet Club chip is built to ISO 11784/11785, the internationally recognised microchip standard, allowing it to be read by standard scanners at clinics and shelters from Mumbai to Bengaluru and, indeed, in most parts of the world. Chips are additionally registered with ICAR, the International Committee for Animal Recording, and each order includes a complimentary QR pet ID tag for the collar, a genuinely useful backup during the monsoon or around Diwali, when fireworks or sudden storms can send even a well-behaved pet bolting through an open gate.
Uncertain which chip would suit your pet? Our microchip comparison guide sets out Standard ISO, TapSense, and ThermaSense in detail, side by side.
Three chip families, one shared registry
Standard ISO
Our foundational chip, built to ISO 11784/11785 for permanent identification, and compatible with any standard scanner, whether in India or abroad.
TapSense
ISO compatibility with mobile tap access layered on top, allowing pet information to be read by a smartphone as readily as a standard scanner. Offered as TapSense or TapSense Core, each in several sizes.
ThermaSense
Identification combined with built-in temperature sensing, a useful addition for ongoing health monitoring. Offered as ThermaSense or ThermaSense X, each in several sizes.
What distinguishes a United Pet Club microchip
ISO standard
Every chip is built to ISO 11784/11785 and carries FDX-B certification, so it is readable on the scanners already used by clinics, shelters, and municipal animal control offices.
ICAR registered
Chips are registered with ICAR, the International Committee for Animal Recording, the body veterinary professionals rely on internationally for microchip standards.
Free lifetime plan
Registration remains free for the life of your pet, as does every subsequent update to your contact details. Nothing requires renewal, and nothing is billed later.
Small size
The injector needle and the chip itself are both kept compact, allowing for a quick, low-stress procedure in any pet, from a Pomeranian to a Rottweiler.
Environmentally friendly
An optional reusable injector is available separately from the needle, reducing single-use plastic with each implantation.
Upgraded registry
Owners wanting more than the free plan offers can add upgraded features, such as scan notifications or details on where a pet's tag was last searched.
A registry built for the recovery of lost pets
Every microchip we ship is already linked to the United Pet Club pet registry, searchable around the clock by veterinarians, shelters, and animal welfare teams, and included in the AAHA universal microchip lookup as well. Anyone who has found a lost pet may run a free microchip lookup without needing an account. Registration remains free for life, contact details can be updated whenever your address or phone number changes, and depending on the plan you choose, you may be notified whenever your pet's chip or tag is scanned.
If your pet has already been chipped through another provider, that presents no obstacle: you may still register the microchip number with us, or first read what free registration includes.
Questions we hear from pet owners across India
Is microchipping a legal requirement for dog owners in India?
This varies considerably by city. A number of municipal corporations, including those governing Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, require dog registration or licensing under local by-laws, and microchipping is increasingly requested as part of that process, particularly by RWAs managing societies with pet policies of their own. Nationally, the Animal Birth Control Rules govern the sterilisation and vaccination of street dogs rather than pet microchipping specifically. Given how much the requirements differ from one municipal corporation to the next, it is worth confirming the position with your local authority. United Pet Club, in any case, registers any ISO chip free for life, regardless of which local rule applies to you.
Can a microchip reveal my pet's current location?
No, it cannot. A microchip has neither battery nor GPS, and it stores only an ID number, one that a scanner reads once your pet has been found and brought to a veterinarian, shelter, or municipal animal control office. Live location tracking requires a separate GPS collar or tag altogether, not a microchip.
What qualifies a microchip as an ISO microchip?
An ISO microchip meets ISO 11784/11785, the international standard ensuring that any compliant scanner can read the chip, regardless of the country or company that sold it. This shared standard is precisely why veterinarians and shelters worldwide can identify a lost pet even when it was originally chipped elsewhere.
Which United Pet Club microchip would you recommend?
Standard ISO suits owners looking for straightforward, permanent identification. TapSense is worth considering if smartphone-readable pet information, alongside a standard scanner, would be useful to you. ThermaSense is the better choice where temperature sensing alongside identification matters, for older pets or breeding programmes especially.
Do veterinarians and shelters across India recognise United Pet Club microchips?
They do. Our chips are ISO 11784/11785 compliant and ICAR registered, the same standards used throughout the industry, so any veterinary or shelter scanner built for standard microchips will read ours without difficulty.
