How to register your pet's microchip
Registration links the number implanted in your pet to your contact details, so that a scan at a veterinary clinic or shelter leads directly back to you rather than nowhere at all. Registration in the United Pet Club pet registry remains free for life, regardless of whether your pet's chip came from us or from another provider.
What to have ready before you begin
Keep your pet's microchip number ready: a 15-digit number, usually printed on the paperwork your veterinarian or breeder provided at the time of implantation, or shown on a scanner readout should your vet scan your pet for you. You will also need your current contact details, along with a few basic facts about your pet, its species, breed, colour, and date of birth if this is known to you.
Uncertain whether your pet already carries a microchip? Ask your veterinarian to scan for one at your next visit. The scan takes only a few seconds, and most veterinarians will do this as part of a routine examination. Once you have the number in hand, registration proceeds identically regardless of which company's chip your pet is carrying.
Registering your pet's microchip in five steps
1
Create a free account
Sign up for a free United Pet Club account. This is where your registration, and any future updates, will be held.
2
Enter the microchip number
Enter the 15-digit number from your pet's paperwork or scanner readout, checking each digit carefully; a single incorrect number links a scan to the wrong record entirely.
3
Add your pet's details
Provide your pet's name, species, breed, colour, and date of birth if known. These details help a shelter or veterinarian confirm they have found the correct animal.
4
Add your contact information
Enter the phone number, email, and address you would like a finder to use. This is what is actually contacted once your pet is scanned, so it should be kept accurate and current.
5
Review and save
Review the record carefully, then save it. Your pet's chip becomes searchable in the United Pet Club pet registry from that point, and you may return at any time to update the details.
Keeping your registration current
A microchip is only as useful as the contact information behind it. Should you move, change your phone number, or rehome your pet, the registry ought to be updated that same day. Updates cost nothing and take effect immediately, so there is little reason to delay.
Dogs and cats register through much the same process, and our species guides address the finer points, should you find them useful: register a dog or register a cat. If your pet does not yet have a chip, you may still register your pet first and add the chip number afterward. Frequently asked registration questions
What is the process for registering my pet's microchip in India?
Register it free with United Pet Club: create a free account, enter the 15-digit chip number, and add your contact details. It works with any brand of chip implanted by any veterinarian in India, and the free lifetime plan covers registration along with every future update, at no charge. Registration is available worldwide as well, so your record can be kept current from any country you happen to be in.
How long does registering a microchip generally take?
Most owners complete the process in a matter of minutes, provided they have the microchip number and their pet's basic details ready. There is no waiting period involved; the record becomes searchable as soon as it is saved.
May I register a microchip that a different company implanted?
Yes. Enter the microchip number from your pet's paperwork, and it registers in the United Pet Club pet registry exactly as a United Pet Club chip would.
What if I am unable to locate my pet's microchip number?
Ask your veterinarian or a local shelter to scan for it. The scan is quick and causes no discomfort, and most veterinarians will check for a chip during a routine visit at no additional cost.
Is re-registration required if I move or change my phone number?
No, there is no need to begin again. Simply log in and update your existing record with the new contact information. The change is free and applies immediately.
