Colitis
Colitis is inflammation of the colon (large intestine) that produces the hallmark of frequent small-volume diarrhea, often with mucus, fresh blood, and straining. It may be acute, often from diet, stress, or infection, or chronic from inflammatory or dietary causes. Most acute cases resolve quickly with simple care. Chronic colitis needs dietary and medical management.
