Feather-destructive behavior
Feather-destructive behavior is a common problem in pet parrots in which a bird chews, pulls, or over-preens its own feathers, leading to feather damage and bald areas. It has many possible causes including medical disease, poor diet, boredom, stress, and lack of enrichment. The behavior can become a self-reinforcing habit even after the original cause is resolved.
