Chronic egg laying and egg binding
Chronic egg laying is the repeated production of eggs beyond normal seasonal levels, common in pet cockatiels and budgerigars. It depletes calcium and energy reserves and can lead to egg binding, in which an egg becomes stuck in the reproductive tract. Egg binding is a medical emergency that can cause straining, weakness, and death if untreated.
