Link the chip to you in a few minutes
Registering a microchip ties the number implanted in your pet to your contact details, so a scan at a vet surgery or rescue centre leads straight back to your door. Registration in the United Pet Club pet registry is free for life, whichever provider supplied the chip.
What to gather before you start
First, the microchip number. It is fifteen digits, printed on the paperwork from your vet, breeder, or rescue at the time of implanting, or shown on a scanner readout if your vet checks for you. You will also want your current contact details plus your pet's basics: species, breed, colour, and date of birth if known.
Not certain your pet is chipped at all? Ask at your vet surgery. A scan takes seconds and most vets are happy to do it during a routine appointment. Once the number is in hand, registration works identically whatever company made the chip.
Register the chip in five steps
1
Create a free account
Sign up for a free United Pet Club account. Your registration and every later update lives here.
2
Enter the microchip number
Type the fifteen digit number from the paperwork or scanner readout, and check every digit twice. One wrong figure sends a scan to the wrong record.
3
Add your pet's details
Name, species, breed, colour, and birth date if known. These details let a rescue centre or vet confirm the animal in front of them matches the record.
4
Add your contact details
The phone number, email, and address you want a finder to use. This is what actually gets rung when your pet is scanned, so keep it accurate.
5
Check and save
Review the record and save. The chip is now searchable in the United Pet Club pet registry, and you can return whenever the details change.
A registered chip is only as good as its details
The chip lasts for life, but your phone number probably will not. Move house, change your mobile, or rehome the pet, and the registry should be updated the same day. Changes are free and go live immediately, so nothing stands in your way.
Dogs and cats register in exactly the same fashion, and the species guides cover the finer points: register a dog or register a cat. No chip yet? Register your pet first and drop the chip number in after the vet visit. To see precisely what the free lifetime plan covers before you commit, read free microchip registration.
Registering a microchip, answered
How do I register my pet's microchip in the UK?
Register it free with United Pet Club: create a free account, enter the fifteen digit chip number, and add your contact details. It works with any brand of ISO chip implanted by any UK vet, so there is no need for a new chip, and the free lifetime plan covers the registration and every future update at no charge. Registration is available worldwide as well, so you can sign up and keep the record up to date from any country.
How long does registration take?
A few minutes for most owners, provided the chip number and the pet's basic details are to hand. There is no waiting period. The record is searchable the moment you save it.
Can I register a chip implanted by a different company?
Yes. Enter the number from your pet's paperwork and it goes onto the United Pet Club pet registry exactly as one of our own chips would.
What if I cannot find the microchip number?
Ask your vet surgery or a local rescue centre to scan your pet. The scan is quick and painless, and most vets will check for a chip during any routine visit.
Do I re-register after moving house or changing numbers?
No fresh registration needed. Log in, amend the existing record with the new details, and you are done. The change is free and applies straight away.
