Blastomycosis
Blastomycosis is a systemic fungal disease caused by inhaling spores of Blastomyces dermatitidis from moist, sandy soil near water. The fungus most often infects the lungs but can spread to the eyes, skin, bones, and other organs. Dogs, especially active sporting breeds in endemic river valley regions, are commonly affected. Disease can be severe and requires prolonged antifungal therapy.
