A tag does nothing until it's registered
Buy a QR tag and it's blank until you link it. Once it's registered with United Pet Club, a scan sends whoever found your pet straight to their profile. It's free, takes a couple of minutes, and the tag keeps working even after your number changes.
Why bother registering at all
An engraved tag's ready to go the second it's on the collar. Whoever finds your pet just reads the number off the metal. A QR tag's different, its code is only a pointer, and a scan opens nothing until that pointer's linked to your pet's profile. Registering is that link.
Do it once and the tag stops going out of date. Move house, get a new number, add a second contact: update the registry profile and every scan after that shows the new details. An engraved tag would need redoing; a registered code tag just needs a quick edit.
Pet not on the registry yet? Register your pet first, since the tag links to that profile during setup. Still weighing up tag types? The buying guide runs through engraved versus QR.
Four steps and you're done
1
Sign in free
New here? Setting up an account costs nothing and takes about a minute.
2
Add or choose your pet
A tag links to one pet's profile, so get that pet registered before you link the tag.
3
Type in the tag's code
The code's printed right on the tag. Enter it and that ties the physical tag to the profile.
4
Scan it yourself first
Point your own phone at the tag and check it opens the right profile. After that, a stranger's scan does exactly the same thing.
Common tag registration questions
Does an engraved tag need registering too?
Not really. It carries its info in the metal, so it works without any setup. Still worth registering the pet, though, so a vet scan or a lost-pet check leads back to you.
How do I actually register a QR tag?
Sign in free, pick your pet, and type in the code from the tag. A couple of minutes and it's live.
Does registering a tag cost anything?
No. Linking the tag's free, and so is editing the profile behind it, for as long as your pet's around.
What does a finder actually see when they scan it?
Your pet's profile, showing whatever contact details you've chosen to share. Depending on your plan, you can also get pinged the moment it's scanned.
Can I move a tag onto a different pet?
Yeah. Relink the code from your account, which comes in handy if a tag outlasts a collar or gets passed down.
