Pyrethrin and pyrethroid toxicosis
Pyrethrins, derived from chrysanthemums, and synthetic pyrethroids are widely used insecticides. At toxic exposure they prolong sodium channel opening in nerves, causing tremors, hypersalivation, and twitching. Most exposures are mild, but cats are more sensitive, especially to permethrin.
