Mastitis
Mastitis is inflammation of the mammary glands, usually from bacterial infection, occurring most often in nursing does. The affected glands become swollen, hot, reddened or bluish, and painful, and the doe may become febrile and stop eating. Bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Pasteurella are common causes, often entering through skin wounds or injured teats. It can progress to abscessation or life-threatening blood infection if untreated.
