Glycogen storage disease type IV
Hereditary
Glycogen storage disease type IV is a fatal inherited metabolic disease of Norwegian Forest cats caused by deficiency of the branching enzyme needed for normal glycogen formation. Abnormal glycogen accumulates in muscle and nerve tissue. Affected kittens are often stillborn or die soon after birth, while survivors develop progressive muscle weakness and tremors by several months of age.
