Struvite urolithiasis

Struvite urolithiasis is the formation of magnesium ammonium phosphate stones in the urinary tract, strongly influenced by diet and urine pH. In dogs the stones often form with urinary tract infection, while in cats they relate to diet and concentrated alkaline urine. Stones cause straining, blood in urine, and potentially life-threatening obstruction. Many can be dissolved or prevented with diet.
