Ballengeschwür (Pododermatitis)

Das Ballengeschwür ist eine chronische bakterielle Infektion und Entzündung der Fußsohle bei Vögeln, meist verursacht durch Staphylococcus aureus, der über Hautabschürfungen eindringt. Es führt zu Schwellung, einem charakteristischen dunklen Schorf an der Sohle, Lahmheit und, unbehandelt, zu tiefen Abszessen mit Knochenbeteiligung. Schwere Vögel auf hartem oder verschmutztem Untergrund sind am stärksten gefährdet.
