Serpentovirus-Infektion (Python-Nidovirus)

Das Python-Nidovirus, mittlerweile den Serpentoviren zugeordnet, ist eine ansteckende virale Ursache von Atemwegserkrankungen bei Pythons, besonders bei Königspythons. Das Virus befällt das Epithel der Atemwege und der Maulhöhle und verursacht Schleimbildung, offenes Atmen, Maulplaques und fortschreitende Pneumonie. Die Infektion verläuft häufig chronisch und kann tödlich enden, wobei subklinische Träger zur stillen Ausbreitung in Beständen beitragen. Sie hat sich zu einer bedeutenden Ursache von Atemwegserkrankungen bei in Gefangenschaft gehaltenen Königspythons entwickelt.
