Also known as: 马骨关节炎
退行性关节病(骨关节炎)是马和驴关节软骨及周围骨骼的进行性退化。它是慢性跛行的主要原因,尤其见于运动量大的马和老龄动物。患病关节会逐渐变得僵硬、疼痛,活动范围减小。
Degenerative joint disease, or osteoarthritis, is progressive breakdown of articular cartilage with secondary changes in bone and the joint capsule. It is one of the most common causes of chronic lameness and reduced performance in horses and a frequent problem in aging donkeys.
Repetitive concussion and stress, joint instability, previous injury, intra-articular fractures, infection, conformational faults, and developmental disease all contribute. Wear accumulates over years, especially in hardworking and older animals.
Signs include lameness that often worsens with work, joint stiffness and reduced flexibility, joint swelling, heat, and a shortened stride. Donkeys may mask discomfort and simply move less or lose condition.
Lameness examination with flexion tests, diagnostic joint blocks, and radiographs showing narrowed joint space and bony spurs confirm the diagnosis; ultrasound and MRI assess soft tissues.
Management includes controlled exercise, weight control, anti-inflammatory drugs, joint injections, corrective farriery, and joint-supportive medications. The goal is to relieve pain and slow progression.
Appropriate workloads, good footing, balanced hoof care, weight control, and prompt treatment of joint injuries help delay onset.
