Bệnh Newcastle là bệnh virus có khả năng lây lan rất cao ở gia cầm, do các chủng độc lực cao của paramyxovirus gia cầm type 1 (virus Newcastle) gây ra. Các chủng velogenic gây triệu chứng hô hấp, thần kinh và tiêu hóa nghiêm trọng kèm tỷ lệ chết cao. Đây là bệnh phải khai báo theo quy định của Tổ chức Thú y Thế giới (WOAH) và có thể gây viêm kết mạc nhẹ ở người.
