Megaözofagus, özofagus kas tonusu ve motilitesinin genel kaybıdır; bu nedenle özofagus genişler ve gıdayı mideye taşıyamaz. Gıda ve sıvılar birikir ve regürjite edilir, bu da sıklıkla aspirasyon pnömonisine yol açar. Doğuştan olabileceği gibi sinir, kas veya hormonal hastalığa ikincil olarak edinilmiş de olabilir. Dik pozisyonda besleme ve altta yatan nedenin tedavisiyle yönetilir.
