ภาวะฟันสลายเป็นโรคทางทันตกรรมที่พบบ่อยมากและเจ็บปวดในแมว เนื้อฟันแข็งของฟันหนึ่งซี่หรือหลายซี่ถูกทำลายและแทนที่แบบค่อยเป็นค่อยไป จนในที่สุดฟันแตกสลาย สาเหตุยังไม่เข้าใจอย่างสมบูรณ์ รอยโรคมักเริ่มใต้ขอบเหงือกและอาจไม่ถูกสังเกตเห็นจนกว่าจะลุกลามมาก เนื่องจากกระบวนการนี้เจ็บปวดและไม่สามารถย้อนกลับได้ ฟันที่ได้รับผลกระทบจึงมักต้องถอนออกเพื่อบรรเทาความไม่สบาย
