ภาวะไขมันคั่งตับเป็นโรคตับรุนแรงที่พบบ่อยที่สุดในแมว เกิดขึ้นเมื่อแมวหยุดกินอาหารและร่างกายระดมไขมันเข้าสู่ตับเร็วกว่าที่จะย่อยสลายได้ทัน ไขมันสะสมในเซลล์ตับและทำให้การทำงานของตับบกพร่อง มักเกิดหลังจากช่วงเบื่ออาหารที่ถูกกระตุ้นโดยโรคอื่นหรือความเครียด มักถึงแก่ชีวิตหากไม่ได้รับการสนับสนุนทางโภชนาการอย่างเข้มข้น แต่หากรักษาทันเวลาแมวส่วนใหญ่จะฟื้นตัวได้เต็มที่
