โรคมาเร็กเป็นโรคมะเร็งต่อมน้ำเหลืองชนิดติดต่อรุนแรงในไก่ เกิดจากไวรัสอัลฟาเฮอร์ปีส์ชนิดที่อยู่ในเซลล์ (gallid herpesvirus 2) ทำให้เกิดมะเร็งต่อมน้ำเหลืองชนิดทีเซลล์ในอวัยวะภายใน เส้นประสาทบวมโตจนเป็นอัมพาต และกดภูมิคุ้มกัน รูปแบบทางระบบประสาทแบบคลาสสิกทำให้ขาเป็นอัมพาตแบบลุกลาม นอกจากนี้ยังพบรูปแบบที่อวัยวะภายในและตาได้ด้วย
