Pyometra
Also known as: Infekterad livmoder
Pyometra är en livshotande bakteriell infektion i livmodern som utvecklas hos okastrerade honor, vanligtvis inom veckor efter en löpcykel under progesteronets inflytande. Var ansamlas i livmodern, och toxiner som frisätts i blodomloppet kan orsaka sepsis, njurskada och död. Den klassificeras som öppen (öppen livmoderhals, synlig flytning) eller sluten (sluten livmoderhals, ingen flytning), där den slutna formen är farligare. Akut kirurgiskt avlägsnande av livmoder och äggstockar är förstahandsbehandlingen.
