Also known as: TBC pri govedu
Kronična zoonotska mikobakterijska okužba goveda.
Bovine tuberculosis is a chronic, slowly progressive granulomatous disease of cattle with important zoonotic and trade implications. It is controlled in many countries by test-and-slaughter programs.
Infection with Mycobacterium bovis, spread mainly by inhalation of respiratory aerosols between cattle and sometimes by ingestion; wildlife reservoirs can maintain infection.
Often none for long periods; advanced cases show chronic weight loss, weakness, a persistent low cough, enlarged lymph nodes, and reduced production. Signs depend on which organs carry tubercles.
Tuberculin skin testing as the primary screening tool, supported by interferon-gamma blood tests, plus confirmation by culture or PCR and lesions at slaughter.
Cattle are not treated; test-positive animals are removed under regulatory programs.
Routine testing and removal of reactors, movement controls, milk pasteurization to protect people, biosecurity, and wildlife management where relevant.
