Modena je čokat, srednje velik italijanski okrasni golob, znan po širokem naboru barv in mirnem, dobrodušnem značaju.

Modena je pasma okrasnih golobov iz severne Italije, poimenovana po mestu Modena. Gre za kompakten, čokat golob, kar pomeni, da je telo kratko in zaobljeno, ne dolgo in vitko. Pasmo gojijo predvsem za razstave in kot spremljevalnega goloba, ne za dirke ali meso.

Priznana sta dva razstavna tipa. Schietti so enobarvni golobi v eni sami barvi, Gazzi pa imajo obarvano glavo, peruti in rep na beli podlagi telesa. Pri obeh tipih se pasma pojavlja v zelo širokem naboru barv in vzorcev, zato ima med rejci golobov trdno skupino privržencev.

Ime pasme izhaja iz mesta Modena v deželi Emilia-Romagna na severu Italije. Golobarstvo je na tem območju staro, lokalne golobe pa so skozi mnoge rodove izbirali po barvi in kratkem, zaobljenem telesu. Italijanske predhodnice so včasih letele v skupinski igri, pri kateri so golobe podili in lovili, kar je spodbujalo čokat, gibčen tip.

Sčasoma so rejci pozornost preusmerili od letalnih sposobnosti k videzu. Izbor se je ustalil pri čokati postavi, pokončni drži in širokem naboru barv, ki pasmo opredeljujejo še danes. V tem obdobju sta se uveljavila oba razstavna razreda: Schietti za enobarvne golobe in Gazzi za vzorec bele podlage z obarvanimi oznakami.

Modena se je iz Italije razširila v Nemčijo, kjer so rejci razvili nekoliko večji in bolj izpiljen razstavni tip, ki ga pogosto imenujejo nemška modena. Od tam in iz Italije je pasma prišla v Britanijo in Severno Ameriko, kjer je postala pogosta udeleženka golobjih razstav.

Danes je modena ena od številčnejših pasem okrasnih golobov na razstavah, gojijo pa jo po vsej Evropi in Severni Ameriki. Reja se še naprej osredotoča na tip, držo in širok nabor barv in vzorcev, ne na katero koli delovno rabo.

Modena je nezmotljivo čokata. Telo je kratko in globoko, prsi so široke in visoko nošene, hrbet pa kratek. Golob stoji pokončno, rep drži nad tlemi, peruti pa počivata na repu in se pod njim ne križata. Glava je zaobljena, kljun srednje velik in čvrst. Celoten obris je kompakten in zaokrožen, kar je osrednja točka pasemskega standarda.
