Also known as: Пневмония инкубаторных птенцов
Aspergillosis is a common fungal disease of captive birds caused chiefly by Aspergillus fumigatus. It usually affects the lower respiratory tract, including the lungs and air sacs, and can be acute in nestlings or chronic in adults.
Birds inhale fungal spores from moldy seed, bedding, or damp environments. Stress, poor ventilation, malnutrition, and immune suppression increase susceptibility.
Common signs include labored or open-mouth breathing, tail bobbing, changes in voice, exercise intolerance, and gradual weight loss. Acute cases in young birds can be rapidly fatal.
Diagnosis combines clinical signs, bloodwork, imaging, and endoscopy with sampling of lesions. Fungal culture, cytology, and serology aid confirmation.
Prolonged antifungal therapy, sometimes including nebulization and surgical debulking of lesions, is required. Supportive care and correcting husbandry are important.
Provide good ventilation, clean dry housing, mold-free food, and reduce stress. Avoid damp bedding and overcrowding in nurseries.
