Serpentovirusinfeksjon (python-nidovirus)

Python-nidovirus, nå klassifisert blant serpentovirus, er en smittsom viral årsak til luftveissykdom hos pytoner, spesielt kongepytoner. Viruset angriper luftveienes og munnhulens epitel og gir slim, gapende pusting, munnplakk og fremadskridende lungebetennelse. Infeksjonen er ofte kronisk og kan være dødelig, og subkliniske bærere bidrar til stille spredning i samlinger. Den har blitt en viktig årsak til luftveissykdom hos kongepytoner i fangenskap.
