Kecacatan bawaan di mana lelangit (bahagian atas rongga mulut) gagal menutup semasa perkembangan, meninggalkan lubang antara rongga mulut dan rongga hidung. Ia boleh bersifat baka, dengan kecenderungan baka terutamanya pada anjing berhidung pesek, atau disebabkan oleh bahan teratogen semasa kehamilan. Anak anjing yang terjejas sukar menyusu dan mudah mendapat pneumonia aspirasi.
