Scrapie

Scrapie adalah penyakit neurodegeneratif progresif yang fatal pada domba dan kambing serta merupakan prototipe ensefalopati spongiform menular (penyakit prion). Disebabkan oleh akumulasi protein prion yang salah lipat pada otak, menyebabkan perubahan spongiform. Gejala klinis meliputi gatal hebat, kerontokan bulu, perubahan perilaku, tremor, dan inkoordinasi selama berbulan-bulan. Kerentanan genetik sangat dipengaruhi oleh genotipe protein prion (PRNP), dan penyakit ini wajib dilaporkan di banyak negara.
