Cacat bawaan di mana langit-langit mulut gagal menutup selama perkembangan, meninggalkan lubang antara rongga mulut dan rongga hidung. Dapat bersifat herediter, dengan kecenderungan ras terutama pada anjing berhidung pesek, atau disebabkan oleh teratogen selama kehamilan. Anak anjing yang terkena kesulitan menyusu dan rentan terhadap pneumonia aspirasi.
