Pernarutto on erittäin äkillinen ja usein kuolemaan johtava Bacillus anthracis -bakteerin aiheuttama tauti, joka sairastuttaa nautoja ja muita tuotantoeläimiä ja tarttuu myös ihmiseen. Itiöt säilyvät maaperässä vuosikymmeniä ja tartuttavat laiduntavia eläimiä, mikä johtaa äkilliseen kuolemaan nopean verenmyrkytyksen seurauksena. Se on maailmanlaajuisesti vakava ilmoitusvelvollinen tauti.
