زبان آبی یک بیماری ویروسی منتقله توسط حشرات در نشخوارکنندگان است که ویروس زبان آبی عامل آن است و توسط پشه‌های Culicoides منتقل می‌شود. گوسفندان شدیدترین بیماری را نشان می‌دهند، در حالی که گاوها اغلب به‌عنوان مخزن با عفونت خفیف‌تر یا بدون علامت عمل می‌کنند. علائم منعکس‌کننده آسیب به عروق کوچک خونی هستند و شامل تب، ضایعات دهانی و ادم می‌شوند.
