کزاز بیماری اغلب کشندهای است که توسط سم باکتری Clostridium tetani ایجاد میشود و از طریق زخم وارد بدن میشود. اسب و الاغ از حساسترین گونهها هستند. این سم سیگنالهای عصبی مهاری را مسدود کرده و باعث سفتی شدید عضلانی و اسپاسم میشود.
