Streptococcus suis باکتری‌ای است که مننژیت، سپتی‌سمی، آرتریت و مرگ ناگهانی در خوک‌های جوان، به‌ویژه حوالی از شیرگیری، ایجاد می‌کند. این یکی از مهم‌ترین بیماری‌های باکتریایی خوک‌های نوزادگاه در سراسر جهان است. همچنین یک بیماری مشترک جدی است که در افرادی که تماس نزدیک با خوک دارند، به‌ویژه در برخی مناطق آسیا، مننژیت، کاهش شنوایی و سپتی‌سمی ایجاد می‌کند.
