Registration that costs nothing, and stays that way
We do not charge to register a microchip, and we do not charge to update your contact details afterward either. Whether your pet carries one of our chips or one from another supplier, the free lifetime plan adds it to the pet registry at no cost, with nothing sitting there waiting to be renewed.
What the free plan actually gives you
Free registration puts your pet's microchip number, your contact details, and a basic description into a record on our pet registry, searchable by a vet, SPCA branch, or animal control officer at any hour. Setting the record up costs nothing, keeping it active costs nothing, and changing your phone number or address later costs nothing either, which is usually exactly where other registries send an invoice.
Registration, unlimited updates, and searchability around the clock, that is what the free lifetime plan covers. Want more? Upgraded registry features sit on top for those who want them. Nothing about the free plan expires or needs renewing, and if this is your first time registering a chip, the step by step guide walks you through the whole process. The plan works worldwide too, so wherever you live now, or move to later, the same free registration follows you.
What you get at no cost
Lifetime registration
The registration never expires, and there is nothing to renew or pay for again.
Unlimited contact updates
Change your address, phone number, or email as often as you need, for as long as you own the pet.
24/7 searchable lookup
Vets, SPCA branches, and animal control can search the registry at any hour, including through the AAHA universal microchip lookup.
Works with chips from other companies
You do not need a United Pet Club chip to use the registry. Enter the number from an existing chip and it links to your record the same way.
Why we keep this free
An unregistered microchip does not do much. A vet or SPCA branch can scan it, sure, but with no record attached to that number, there is no way for them to reach you. Charge people for registering or updating, and plenty put it off, right at the moment a lost pet needs the details to be current.
Nothing to pay here means there is no excuse for a record to go stale. Moved house, new number, rehomed a pet? Update the microchip record the same day, it takes only a few minutes.
Free registration questions
Is registering a microchip really free in South Africa?
Yes, completely, with United Pet Club. No charge to register a new microchip, none to update your details, and no renewal fee waiting down the line, whether your pet is chipped in Cape Town, Durban, or anywhere else in the country.
Will I have to pay something eventually to keep it active?
No. Once a chip is registered, it stays active for the life of your pet unless you remove it yourself. There is no subscription behind the free tier.
Can I register a microchip that is not from United Pet Club?
Yes. Enter the microchip number from your pet's paperwork, or from a scan your vet gives you, and it registers with us the same way a United Pet Club chip does.
What is the difference between the free plan and the upgraded ones?
The free lifetime plan covers the core record: your contact details, your pet's information, and searchability at any hour, free for life. Upgraded plans add extras like additional notification options, but you never need to upgrade to keep the basic registration active.
