Tracheal collapse
Hereditary
Tracheal collapse is a progressive weakening and flattening of the cartilage rings of the windpipe, common in toy and small-breed dogs. The softened trachea narrows during breathing, producing a characteristic dry, honking cough. Excitement, heat, obesity, and exercise worsen episodes. It is a chronic, manageable but incurable condition.
