Constipation (intestinal impaction)

Constipation is a common digestive problem in ornamental fish, especially bettas and fancy goldfish, in which the intestine becomes impacted and feces are retained. It usually results from overfeeding, a diet too high in dry or low-fiber food, and lack of variety. It causes abdominal swelling and reduced appetite and can predispose to swim bladder problems.
