So, what does free registration actually give you
Register for free, and your pet's chip number, your contact details, and a bit of basic information about the animal itself go into a record on our pet registry, one a vet, ISPCA branch, or dog warden can search any hour of the day or night. Setting the record up costs nothing, keeping it going costs nothing, and changing your phone number or address further down the road costs nothing either, and that last bit happens to be exactly where plenty of other registries would send you a bill.
Registration, updates without any limit, searchability round the clock, that's the free lifetime plan in full. Would you like more? Upgraded registry features sit on top for those who want them, extra notification options and the like. None of the free plan ever expires or needs renewing, and if this is your first time doing any of this, the step-by-step guide will take you through it start to finish. Why we bothered making this free in the first place
A microchip that's never been registered is not doing much of anything, if we're honest about it. A vet or shelter can scan it grand, no trouble there, but with no record behind that number, there's no way for anyone to actually reach you. Charge people for registering or updating, and plenty simply won't get round to it, and that's precisely the moment a lost pet needs the details to be right.
Nothing to pay here means there's really no excuse for a record to go stale. Moved house, new number, rehomed a pet? Update the microchip record that same day, it takes only a few minutes.
A few questions on free registration
Is registration in Ireland genuinely free with you?
It is, through and through. No charge to register a new chip, none to update your details, and no renewal fee lurking somewhere down the line. A good few registries charge for updates, or after so many years, we simply never have.
Will something come along eventually asking for payment to keep it active?
No, nothing will. Once a chip is registered it stays active for the whole of your pet's life, unless you go and remove it yourself. There's no subscription sitting behind the free tier keeping it alive.
Can I register a chip that didn't come from United Pet Club?
You can, of course, no bother at all. Enter the microchip number printed on your pet's paperwork, or the one your vet gives you, and it registers with us exactly as one of our own chips would.
How does the free plan differ from the upgraded ones?
The free lifetime plan covers what matters most: your contact details, your pet's information, and round-the-clock searchability, all at no cost, for life. Upgraded plans add a few extras on top, more notification options being the usual one, but you never need to touch them just to keep the basics ticking along.
