Bloat (ruminal tympany)
Bloat is the over-distension of the rumen with gas, which the animal cannot eructate (belch). Frothy bloat results from stable foam trapping gas, often on lush legume pasture, while free-gas bloat results from a physical obstruction to eructation. Severe bloat compresses the chest and can cause rapid death.
