Serpentovirusinfektion (python-nidovirus)

Python-nidovirus, nu klassificeret blandt serpentovirus, er en smitsom viral årsag til luftvejssygdom hos pytoner, især kongepytoner. Virus angriber luftvejenes og mundhulens epitel og giver slim, gabende vejrtrækning, mundplak og fremadskridende lungebetændelse. Infektionen er ofte kronisk og kan være dødelig, og subkliniske bærere bidrager til stille spredning i samlinger. Den er blevet en væsentlig årsag til luftvejssygdom hos kongepytoner i fangenskab.
