تسبب الفطريات المحتوية على الأماتوكسين، مثل Amanita phalloides، فشلاً كبدياً حاداً غالباً ما يكون مميتاً. بعد علامات هضمية مبكرة يحدث تحسن كاذب مخادع قبل تطور فشل الكبد والكلى. الكلاب التي تلتقط الفطر من الخارج هي الأكثر عرضة للخطر.
